My style
Firstly, may dalawang category ng type of song (I have my own terms haha) May tinatawag tayong “Potential-Hit Song” and “Artist Song”. What’s the difference? Ang potential-hit song is yung song na may potential mag sell, madiscover, madaming makarelate and malakas makakuha ng masa. Examples are yung mga sobrang sikat na kanta worldwide, anything basta sikat specially pop songs. Artist songs naman, ay yung mga songs na malalalim na ginawa from the heart na yung mga hindi sumisikat pero sobrang galing sa puso ng songwriter. Examples are those indie songwriters, mga unreleased. Pero minsan chumachamba, naghihit din so.. you can’t tell. So if you’re gonna write a song, you might wanna decide on what song you want it to be. Gusto mo bang sumikat? makilala? or gusto mo sayo lang? or gusto mo malay mo both? It’s possible. Sa Potential Hit Song muna tayo. How do you attract the masses? mga tao? ayun alamin mo muna kung ano yung trend ngayon, ano yung kinalalagay mo sa kinalalagay ng iba so that’s the first. Think of a storyline, kung ano gusto mong story ng song mo. So you have your story! Next is think of words na relatable sa story mo. For example your story is kunwari yung kay Bruno Mars “When I was Your Man.” What are those catchy words na nagpalitaw maigi dun sa song na yon? Tear me down, another man, mistakes etc. Yung mga ganon, then just look for some words, research. Then think of the story as a movie, put yourself in the situation of the story. Gawin mong literal. Yung story ng When I was your man “Same bed, but it feels just a little bit bigger now.” Yung mga moment na wala na yung girl, mag isa nalang siya diba? mga ganon. And he used metaphors and idioms.. Bakit ba parang nararamdaman niya lumaki na yung bed? kasi wala na yung girl, kaya mas spacious niya. Yan yung mga parts na nagiging catchy. Making every phrase catchy so you really have to be creative in writing your lyrics. Don’t be too formal! sa lyrics? wag! there are some words na kapag masyadong MAAYOS, nagiging baduy. Example, Instead of writing “I don’t wanna lose you” (typical lines) why not write “Don’t wanna see you walk away” (Example lang) pero get the point? na atleast make it more casual and more convers-ive. haha. Your title matters. Importante din mag isip ng catchy title. Mas maganda gumawa ng song na nagbabase ka from other things like for example gagawa ka ng song about NOT GIVING UP. Wag namang DON’T GIVE UP lang ang ilalagay haha! I mean gawan mo siya ng contrast, ano ba ang ginagawa mo pag di ka susuko? umaakyat ka diba? parang sa The Climb ni Miley Cyrus. They based it on Mountaineering and nagrelate sila ng mga gawaing Mountaineering sa pag attain ng dreams mo. Parang ganon :) Title is important! Wag kang tumulad sa typical titles. Maghanap ka ng sarili mong title na magstand out siya kapag nakita sa net! So yun! Make everything catchy! Catchy is what capture people’s attention. Yung mga hit songs, may study yan. Sometimes you percieve the emotion as is, pero minsan it’s the science talaga na nagpapadala ng emotions mo. Minsan yung arrangement lang ng song, madadala ka na *that’s another fact*. Minsan akala mo, ginoosebumps ka sa boses, di mo alam minsan na yung dynamics ng instruments ang nagpagoosebumps sayo pati yung MIX ng reverb sa boses.. so that’s it for this! Potential-Hit Song! How bout sa Artist Song? Just write how you want it! Walang pipigil sayo! This is the good thing about Artist Songs. Walang limitations and everything. Pero sugal yan, hindi mo malalaman kung makikilala, pero if you just want to express.. well just go! Hope this helps! :)
